Manchester Airport Buys Stansted Airport

London’s Stansted Airport has been bought by the owner of Manchester Airport for £1.5bn. Formerly owned by Heathrow Airport Holdings, Stansted had to be sold as a result of a ruling by the Competition Commission. The sale is not expected to have any immediate effects on the day to day running of either airport, and is due to be 100% completed later this month. Indeed, anyone turning up at the Stansted or Manchester airport car park (https://www.aph.com/parking/manchester_airport/) will notice little difference to begin with. Heathrow Airport Holdings chief executive Colin Matthews said about the deal:

“Stansted Airport and its people have been part of our company for a long time. We wish the new owners every success and are confident the airport will continue to flourish. We will continue to focus on improving Heathrow, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Southampton airports.”

Airport parking could reduce tube crowding

According to a recent report, around one billion journeys are made on the London Underground transport system every year. London Underground, also known as the Tube, is a major part of the capital’s infrastructure for people travelling for both work and leisure purposes. However, recent increases in the number of people travelling on the tube are putting extra strain on the transport network. One of the reasons for this pressure is that a number of people use the tube to get to London Heathrow airport.

Take the pressure off

Heathrow airport is one of the busiest in the world, with around 69 million travellers passing through it every year; this naturally increases the passenger load on the Tube. One way to combat this extra load on the tube is for travellers to consider driving to and parking at Heathrow airport. Parking at Heathrow Airport could mean that travellers ease pressure on London’s transport network, as well as easing the pressure on their own journey by making it more enjoyable and less stressful.

Cheap airport car parking

In the current economic climate, people are budgeting and looking to save money in every aspect of their lives; travel being an area where big savings can be made. Taking public transport to the airport can seem like a good idea at the time but when you factor in the stress of getting to the station, the crowded train, the potential for delays and cancellations and the price of train tickets, it may be a much better idea to drive to the airport in comfort and park up, ensuring that you have booked cheap airport car parking in advance.

Depending on the kind of service you are looking for from your airport car parking, this can be an extremely cost-effective way to start your holiday. Parking services at most UK airports range from the most basic ‘park and go’ solutions, right through to luxury valet-style meet and greet services. Many packages even include hotel stopovers to bracket your flight.

Park up all around the UK

As well as easing pressure on the transport networks of the capital, there are plenty of other airports around the UK that benefit from secure, on-site parking. This includes Birmingham airport, Stansted airport and Manchester airport. Parking, valet ‘meet and greet’ services and park and stay packages are becoming increasingly popular for people who want the convenience of being able to drive to the airport but who still want the peace of mind that their vehicle is safe whilst they are away.

One of the top tips for a stress-free journey to the airport is to arrange your airport car parking in advance and to plan your journey to the airport to ensure that you arrive in plenty of time. This is often difficult to do when it comes to using the Tube, as with overcrowding, you might have to wait for a couple of trains to pass before you can get on board with your luggage. With careful consideration and planning, airport parking could be the solution to your Tube travel woes.

Assessing the Cost of Airport Parking

When you need to get to the airport you have a couple of options. You could take a taxi or you could drive their yourself. But what do you do with your car? Don’t worry about that, there are various options for airport parking, but are they worth the additional cost?

It depends what you’re looking for. Airport parking is all about convenience, so you’ll be paying extra for that. Depending on the kind of parking you’re looking for it doesn’t have to be a lot extra.

The most cost effective form of airport parking is off site secure parking. This is cheap airport parking because you aren’t parking on the site of the airport. This means there’s some travel between the car park, and you’ll usually need to take a special shuttle bus to reach the terminal.

At the other end of the spectrum you have valet parking. This is the ultimate in convenience, but there is a cost involved. Here all you need to do is show up at the airport, and the valet parks your car for you, usually in a secure off-site location.

If you’re looking to save money you could combine, for example, parking at Stansted airport, with a hotel stay. Doing this means you’ll get a lower price on your hotel stay whilst saving on your parking, which could work out to be the most cost effective option overall.

Money saved with cheap airport parking can be well spent abroad

Having enough spending money when you’re abroad is important. After all, those souvenirs, lovely meals, sightseeing trips and so on don’t come for free. The good news is, as long as you’re savvy, you should be able to make sure your wallet’s bulging when you head off on holiday.

Of course, it’s important to book cheap airport car parking. There are some great deals available and so you don’t have to spend a lot of money on this detail of your vacation. Also, by being tactical when you’re selecting your destination, you can maximise your spending power.

Making your pounds stretch further

Thanks to the strength of the pound at the moment in relation to many other currencies, you may well feel flush when you’re on your foreign adventures. The Post Office noted that sterling is up by 25 per cent on the euro compared with last year. For every £500 converted into euros, people will get an extra £47.41.

According to the firm, Brits can expect 10.5 per cent more spending power on Spanish islands or French resorts now compared with the summer of 2011.

Further afield

It’s not only destinations in Europe that are offering great value for money. People travelling to Brazil will get 24.5 per cent local currency for their pounds this year and sterling will also buy 15.7 per cent more Mexican pesos.

In addition, those who jet off to South Africa can expect 16.7 per cent more for their money this summer.

Keep an eye out for good deals

Post Office head of travel money Andrew Brown commented: “Although the increasing value of sterling against the euro has dominated the headlines, there are very few places where the pound is not packing a stronger punch this year. Our advice is for people to keep a close eye on exchange rates for all the destinations they are considering so they can judge where they will get the best return on their money.”

He added: “There are signs that the power of the pound is making people increasingly savvy both about their choice of destination and their spending habits.”
